Writing Guide
HOW SHOWS
The following is the standard format for when writing for HOW shows, matches, news, and PPVs.
Font: Times New Roman
Size: 12
Style: Normal
--------------------------------
HOW ITEMS
High Octane Vision
HOW's large video screen in which entrance videos, replays, and video packages air on. DO NOT call it the "Titan Tron."
--------------------------------
PERSONALITIES
The names of the on air personalities are to be listed, used, and spelled as follows:
Joe Hoffman
Joe Hoffman is HOW's play-by-play commentator. Joe Hoffman does not crack jokes. Joe is about fairness, equality, and playing by the rules. He rarely, if ever, swears. He takes his job very seriously.
Benny Newell
Benny Newell is HOW's color commentator. He drinks heavily. His liquor of choice is Jack Daniels. He swears a lot, is crude, and offensive. He is very pro-Best Alliance and is loyal to Lee Best, almost to a fault.
Bryan McVay
Bryan McVay is HOW's ring announcer. He is easily intimidated. He loves his job and does as he is told.
Brian Bare
Brian Bare is the overly excited, male backstage interviewer. He will do anything to get a scoop, even if that means putting himself in harm's way or undesirable situations.
Blair Mose
Blair Mose is HOW's female backstage interviewer. She is not as eager to place herself in bad situations as Brian Bare is, but has found herself put into those situations.
Rick "Even" Stevens
Rick "Even" Stevens is the freshman referee for HOW. Rick "Even" Stevens handles all HOFC matches. He also handles some regular matches for HOW, mostly to support Joel Hortega and Matt Boettcher if their work load is too heavy. Rick "Even" Stevens is unbiased.
Joel Hortega
Joel Hortega is the junior referee for HOW. Joel Hortega speaks ONLY in Spanish. If you are writing a match, Joel Hortega will count in Spanish. Joel Hortega handles most of the mid-card matches. He splits some title match responsibilities with Matt Boettcher. Joel Hortega is unbiased.
Matt Boettcher
Matt Boettcher is HOW's senior most referee. He handles all main events and most title matches. He splits some title match responsibilities with Joel Hortega. Matt Boettcher is unbiased.

MATCHES
Weekly Show
All HOW matches on the undercard of weekly shows are to be summarized matches, estimating about 750 words in length. Main events for weekly shows are to be summarized as well, estimating about 1000 - 1250 words.
Supershow/PPV
All HOW supershow/PPV matches on the undercard are to be fully written out. They are to be of respectable length, but not of such crazy length that they overshadow the main event of the supershow/PPV. The main events of the supershows/PPVs are usually written by Lee Best himself unless there are extenuating circumstances, in which case, writing duties will be passed to a reliable writer.
Writing Matches
Any time someone speaks, you are to put their name in bold, as shown in the following example:
Joe Hoffman: Welcome to Thursday Night Turmoil!
You are to leave regular anything that is not someone speaking, as shown in the following example:
Joe Hoffman: Welcome to Thursday Night Turmoil!
Joe turns to Benny Newell.
Benny Newell: Shut up, Joe.
Videos shown on the HOV are to be put in italics, as shown in the following example:
Lee Best points to the HOV to remind the fans what happened last week:
Jatt Starr leaps the ringside barricade, with a steel pipe in hand. He slides into the ring and smashes Lee Best on the back of the head.
Joe Hoffman: Oh my God! Jatt Starr just jumped through the crowd and hit Lee Best on the back of the head with a steel pipe!
Benny Newell: Someone arrest that man and give him the chair! He's assaulting the owner of this company!

ROLEPLAYS
HOW has two kinds of role-plays. In HOW, greater emphasis is placed on quality than quantity. It is entirely possible for a person to have a better role-play score doing less role-plays.
GOLDEN RULES
1.) DO NOT use another person's character unless you get their permission first.
2.) DO NOT break the fourth wall.
3.) Any and all questions, comments, or criticisms regarding your role-play score is to be directed to Lee Best via personal message. Under no circumstances will you bring this up openly on the forums.
HOFC
HOFC role-plays are to be 750 words. No more than that. HOFC role-plays are trash talk role-plays. You are judged on your creativity and trash talking ability. In a non-title HOFC match, you can do up to a maximum of 3 role-plays. For title matches, you can do up to a maximum of 5 role-plays. If your opponent does more role-plays than you, they earn a .25 bonus for each role-play. If you go over 750 words, you will be docked points.
Scoring HOFC In Depth
HOFC has two categories: Creativity and Trash Talking. You are assigned a number 0-5 in each of those two categories. The combined number is your score for that role-play. For example, if you are assigned a 3 in trash talking and a 4 in creativity, your score for that role-play is 7.
Your scores across your three (for non-title matches) or five (for title matches) role-plays are averaged. For example, if you have scores of 5, 7, and 8, your averaged role-play score is 6.67.
You will be docked points for going over the 750 word limit. This penalty is assessed on each role-play that you go over.
You will be given a bonus for every extra role-play (within the limit) that you do more than your opponent. For example, if Christopher America does 3 HOFC role-plays for his non-title match and Chris Kostoff does 2 HOFC roleplays, Christopher America will receive a 0.25 bonus added to his score.
REGULAR ROLEPLAYS
Regular role-plays have no set length. Each week, you can do up to a maximum of two role-plays for your match. You are judged on readability, character development, match relevance, creativity, and setting/description. These five categories make up 80% of your score. Your other 20% is based on quantity. If you break one of the first two golden rules of writing role-plays, you can be docked points.
Scoring Regular Role-Plays In Depth
-Quality-
Regular role-plays have five categories: Readability, Character Development, Match Relevance, Creativity, and Setting/Description. For example, for the week of November 17, 2011, Christopher America received the following scores:
Readability: 3.5
Character Development: 3.5
Match Relevance: 3.25
Creativity: 3.25
Setting/Description: 3.75
These five categories make up 80% of your score. In the example above, the five numbers averaged together equal 3.45. Since this number is 80% of my score, I need to multiply 3.45 by 0.8. That number is 2.76.
-Quantity-
Quantity is 20% of your score. If you do a single role-play, you will receive 0.1 point assigned to your score. If you do two role-plays, you will receive 0.2 points assigned to your score.
In the above example with Christopher America's role-play, he only did one role-play that week. His quantity score is 0.1.
Quality + Quantity = Total role-play score
2.76 + 0.1 = 2.86 (Christopher America's total role-play score for the week.)
